A Malaysian woman recently shared how a simple request for a receipt helped her purchase a 14kg cooking gas cylinder at its subsidised price of RM26.60, after initially being quoted RM28.
In a Threads post, she explained that she urgently needed cooking gas and brought her empty cylinder to the shop herself. However, when the seller quoted RM28, she questioned the price and requested a receipt showing the item and amount charged.
After checking with the boss, the seller eventually agreed to change the price to RM26.60.

The subsidised retail prices for household LPG cylinders are:
- 10kg: RM19.00
- 12kg: RM22.80
- 14kg: RM26.60

Other Threads users also shared their experiences, with some claiming they had been paying more than the subsidised prices for their cooking gas.
The incident serves as a reminder for consumers to stay informed about the prices of controlled goods, especially everyday essentials such as cooking gas.
Asking for a receipt is also a simple way to keep a record of purchases, which can be useful when raising concerns or reporting suspected overcharging to the relevant authorities.
