Malaysia Gears Up for Southeast Asia’s First Smart City Expo, Here’s Why You Should Care

Kuala Lumpur just flipped the switch on something big. The 100-day countdown to Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025 (SCEKL25) is officially on, and it’s more than just an event, it’s a bold statement. For the first time ever, the globally renowned Smart City Expo World Congress (yep, the one from Barcelona!) is coming to Southeast Asia, and weget to host it.

Happening from 17 to 19 September 2025, SCEKL25 is set to spotlight Malaysia as a regional powerhouse in AI innovation, digital transformation, and smart city development. The theme? “AI Cities: Shaping Our Digital Future.” It’s giving Black Mirror meets real-world solutions but make it Malaysian.

Co-organised by MDEC and DNB under the Ministry of Digital, this event isn’t just for tech nerds. It’s a convergence of policymakers, industry giants, urban futurists, and digital entrepreneurs all trying to reimagine what city living could look like. Think sustainability meets connectivity, powered by 5G, AI, and next-gen tech.

Big names like Dell, Intel, Huawei, and Ericsson are already on board. The event expects to attract over 10,000 visitors and 2,000 delegates, opening doors for trade, investment, and major ASEAN-level collaboration.

With Malaysia holding the ASEAN Chairmanship this year, SCEKL25 is set to be a regional game-changer and one more reason to be proud of our homegrown innovation.
