Sharwita’s Triumphant Return to Cannes in 2025
Malaysians continue to make significant strides on the international fashion and entertainment scene, with renowned model Sharminidevi, or more fondly known as Sharwita, once again putting Malaysia on the global map. Known for her elegance and commanding presence, Sharwita made a major mark in 2024 with her debut appearance at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, walking the red carpet at the premiere of PIGEN MED NÅLEN (The Girl with the Needle).
This year, Sharwita returned to the 78th Cannes Film Festival, attending the premiere of EXIT 8 on 18 May 2025. Dressed in a collaborative piece from The Atelier by Professor Datuk Jimmy Choo, OBE and adorned with jewellery by Thamarai Jewels, she once again stood tall as a proud representative of Malaysian elegance and design on the red carpet. Her presence at Cannes was further amplified with an invitation by the brand’s manager, Dato Sri Sunny to appear at the Philip Plein fashion show in Cannes and its Monaco store launch.
Beyond the red carpet, Sharwita’s journey this year has been full of meaningful milestones. She was officially appointed as the Malaysia Brand Ambassador for Wealth Global Partner, an organisation that champions global sustainable development and lifestyle initiatives. She was also present at a superyacht networking event hosted by Wealth Global Partner—a gathering that opened up the door for high-value connections with international thought leaders and creatives. Sharwita continued her busy schedule at Cannes attending the exclusive Amber Lounge Formula 1 event in Monaco via exclusive invitation by its principal partner, Mr Patrick Grove.
Sharwita was also featured on the official Getty Images platform and interviewed by leading media from France, Hong Kong and China. She proudly highlighted Malaysia’s growing potential in fashion tourism. Her international engagements peaked at the Bright Oriental Global Gala & APECCCF Cannes Night, where she served as the showstopper for a grand fashion show at the prestigious Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes on 20 May 2025.
Sharwita aims to build a strong bridge between Malaysian fashion tourism and the global fashion scene. She is currently working toward launching a dedicated fashion tourism forum that will connect models, designers, media and industry players—while mentoring the next generation of Malaysian talents.
“More than glamour, Cannes gave me global visibility and a responsibility to open doors for the next generation of Malaysians in fashion and creative industries. As we approach Visit Malaysia 2026, my mission is to position our country not just as a travel destination, but as a rising fashion capital. This is our time to shine,” shared Sharwita.
Sharwita’s continued presence on the international stage reaffirms her commitment to showcasing the uniqueness, authenticity, and creativity of Malaysia, all while setting the tone for a brighter, more connected fashion future.
