“Sentuhan Wira”: Upcoming Badminton Epic to Immortalise Malaysia’s 1992 Thomas Cup Victory
In a bold move to reignite national pride through cinema, local production company Victory Pictures has officially launched the development of “Sentuhan Wira”, an epic sports-action film based on Malaysia’s unforgettable victory at the 1992 Thomas Cup.
The announcement was made at a prestigious MoU signing ceremony held at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) representative, YB Dato’ Gerald Hans Isaac, along with several former 1992 Thomas Cup squad members.
The film is the brainchild of two badminton legends, Datuk Rashid Sidek and Datuk Cheah Soon Kit who will also serve as official advisors to ensure authenticity in the storytelling. From technical input to emotional accuracy, both icons are deeply involved in shaping the script and maintaining historical integrity.
A Moment That United a Nation
The year 1992 marked a golden era for Malaysian sports. At Stadium Negara, Kuala Lumpur, the national men’s badminton team achieved the impossible, defeating powerhouse Indonesia 3-2 in a nail-biting final that ended a 25-year drought.
The whole country erupted in celebration. Streets were flooded with fans, fireworks lit up the skies, and the Jalur Gemilang waved high in triumph. More than just a sports win, it was a moment of unity, pride, and hope.
“This isn’t just a badminton movie, it’s a story of grit, belief, and being Malaysian,” said Datuk Rashid Sidek, spokesperson for Victory Pictures. “We want today’s youth to feel that same fire in their hearts and carry it forward.”

Directed by the visionary Lenny Ooi, Sentuhan Wira promises cinematic brilliance with stylised visuals, high frame rate action sequences, and tightly edited match scenes. Ooi aims to blur the lines between sports and cinema, immersing viewers right into the intensity of the 1992 court.
Open Casting Nationwide: Searching for Tomorrow’s Heroes
In the spirit of inclusivity and legacy-building, Victory Pictures is launching a nationwide open casting call. The team will be scouting for both experienced actors and real badminton talents to portray the champions of 1992, combining acting skill, athletic ability, and patriotic spirit.
“Talent is important, but heart is everything,” said Lenny Ooi. “We’re looking for individuals who embody courage, discipline, teamwork, and love for Malaysia, the true essence of our 1992 heroes.”
