Coca‑Cola Brings Back ‘Share a Coke’ Now With a Proudly Malaysian Twist

This Merdeka, Coca‑Cola is turning up the nostalgia and the local flavour. The iconic ‘Share a Coke’ campaign is back, but this time it’s Buatan Malaysia, celebrating our quirks, nicknames, and the simple joys that make us… well, Malaysian.

A global favourite with a local vibe

First launched in Australia in 2011, the campaign made Coke cans personal by replacing logos with popular names. Over a decade later, it’s now a worldwide symbol of connection, reaching over 120 countries. In Malaysia, it’s all about local traits like Abang Sado, Mak Cik Bawang, The Lejen, Kaki Komen, Penuh Rizz, Banana Lang, and many more playful labels that feel instantly relatable.

Celebrating what makes us Malaysian

“The campaign celebrates our rich multicultural upbringing and shows that even the simplest act of kindness can create lasting memories,” says Heon Theng Hsiang, Senior Manager, Frontline Marketing, SIMA.

Coca‑Cola has been part of Malaysian life since 1936 from festive feasts to casual hangouts, it’s always been there to make moments better. Now, these Buatan Malaysia cans let fans celebrate friendships, family, and everyday heroes.

Giving back to real-life heroes

The campaign didn’t just stop at fun nicknames. Influencers Danny Lee and Ezzrin visited the Jalan Hang Tuah Fire Station with crates of ‘Abang Sado’ cans, celebrating firefighters who embody courage, strength, and selfless service.

Creators bringing traits to life

Local influencers have also joined the movement, highlighting the stories behind uniquely Malaysian traits. Their content spreads positivity, inspires confidence, and uplifts communities exactly what Merdeka is all about. Check out their take on these traits at @cocacolamy.

Find your Buatan Malaysia can

A roving red LED truck will be rolling into Central Market, KL, from 29–31 August 2025 (10am–10pm daily). Fans can personalise their cans with over 60 local trait names, scan QR codes, see their choices on the LED screen, and grab a can to take home. Perfect for a photo op and a sweet Merdeka keepsake.
