“Maxim Saved Us”: How E-Hailing is Helping Malaysians Rebuild Their Lives in Tough Times

For many Malaysians hit hard by job loss, rising costs, and economic uncertainty, Maxim E-Hailing is more than just a way to get from point A to point B, it’s a lifeline.

Through interviews with three inspiring partner-drivers, Maxim revealed how the platform has given them not just income, but dignity, independence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

From Unemployment to Independence

After losing his job during the COVID-19 pandemic and undergoing surgery for a gallbladder condition, Mr. Gimme spent two years without stable income. Heavy labour was no longer an option, but through Maxim, he found a way to work flexibly, manage his health, and still provide for his family. “Maxim didn’t just give me a job, it gave me hope,” he says.

Breaking Barriers for the Deaf Community

Born deaf, Mr. Bong faced constant rejection in the job market. Joining Maxim in 2022 changed everything. Without complicated interviews or communication hurdles, he could work on his own terms. “I can earn, support myself, and live with dignity,” he shares.

A Retirement with Purpose

For retired firefighter Mr. Kelana, a pension wasn’t enough to cover daily needs. Maxim allowed him to earn extra income without the strain of a full-time job. “I can work when I want, stay active, and support my family, it’s given me peace of mind,” he says.

A Platform That Adapts to Life’s Challenges

According to Maxim, 20% of its drivers rely on the platform as their main source of income, and most earn over 80% of their total income through it. The flexibility to choose working hours and locations has been essential for those balancing health issues, family responsibilities, or other commitments.

With recent regulatory issues resolved by APAD, drivers now have the reassurance that Maxim’s services and their livelihoods are secure. For many, this stability means keeping the lights on, paying for their children’s education, and putting food on the table.
