Jom Quaker Fit: Eat Better, Not Less, Oats for a Healthier Malaysia

Quaker, the world’s No. 1 oats brand, has kicked off its Jom Quaker Fit Campaign, the next step in its mission to help Malaysians eat smarter, manage weight better, and improve overall well-being.

The message is simple: A good breakfast can change your whole day. And with oats packed with science-backed benefits you can tackle early signs of weight gain, care for your heart, and boost digestion.

The Launch at Sunway Velocity Mall

The campaign launch brought “Eat Better, Not Less” to life. There were expert talks, a live cooking demo, and interactive health zones, all showing how small, daily changes like adding oats to your meals can make a big difference.

Why the urgency? A recent study found 54.4% of Malaysians are overweight or obese, and over 2 million live with three major non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol key risks for heart disease and stroke. Poor eating habits, low fibre intake, and too much refined carbs and sodium are fuelling this health crisis.

“Eating healthy isn’t just about losing weight, it’s about building habits that keep you energised, balanced, and mentally strong,” said Mr Georgen Thye, Consultant Dietitian. “Oats are a smart place to start.”

Why Oats? Small Grain, Big Science

Oats are rich in beta-glucan, a soluble fibre proven in over 80 global studies to help with weight management, keep you feeling full, and regulate blood sugar. That means fewer cravings, more stable energy, and better digestion, all without extreme dieting.

“With the Jom Quaker Fit Campaign, we want Malaysians to make small, smart swaps, starting with breakfast,” said Aditya Ahuja, PepsiCo Cluster General Manager for Malaysia & Philippines. “It’s not about sacrifice; it’s about sustainable habits.”

Live Demo: Healthy Can Be Delicious

During the launch, Dr Kit Phanvijhitsiri and Mr Georgen Thye showed how oats can replace refined grains in everyday local dishes from savoury porridge to fibre-rich snacks. The goal? Prove that healthy food can be simple, flavourful, and affordable.

“Nutritious food doesn’t have to be boring,” Georgen said. “Oats are versatile and can fit into the food you already love.”
