Long-Awaited JB–KL Electric Train Service Kicks Off Dec 12

Get ready, travellers! Malaysia’s new Electric Train Service (ETS) linking Johor Bahru (JB) and Kuala Lumpur (KL) is officially starting on December 12, announced Transport Minister Anthony Loke on Saturday (Nov 22).

The launch marks a big step in Malaysian rail travel, with shorter JB–KL trips getting more frequent services, while longer routes to Padang Besar and Butterworth will come in later phases. For now, long-distance trips will run just twice a day, one up, one down while shorter sectors like JB–KL allow multiple daily trips.

Malaysia’s king, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, will officiate the service in Johor Bahru on Dec 11, a day before it opens to the public.

What to Expect on the JB–KL ETS

  • Travel time: 3.5–4.5 hours (depending on train type)
  • Stops along the way: Bandar Tasik Selatan, Kajang, Seremban, Pulau Sebang (Tampin), Batang Melaka, Gemas, Segamat, Labis, Bekok, and Paloh
  • Service types: Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Express — choose based on speed, comfort, and amenities

For travellers heading to northern Malaysia, Minister Loke suggests using transit connections to continue the journey beyond KL.

This new ETS line promises a comfortable, faster, and more convenient ride between the south and the capital a must-try for weekend getaways, business trips, or anyone looking to skip traffic on the highway.
