One of Kuala Lumpur’s most familiar fast-food landmarks is officially back.
McDonald’s Malaysia has reopened McDonald’s Titiwangsa Drive-Thru along Jalan Pahang, marking a new chapter for the country’s first-ever Drive-Thru restaurant, which first opened its doors on 19 December 1988. Nearly four decades on, the outlet returns refreshed, not just as a place to grab a quick meal, but as a modern neighbourhood hangout shaped by community, design and memory.
Located in one of KL’s most established areas, the Titiwangsa outlet sits at the heart of daily city life, surrounded by residential neighbourhoods, MRT stations, major hospitals and the iconic Titiwangsa Lake Gardens. Over the years, it has quietly become a familiar stop for families, commuters, healthcare workers and joggers, a constant presence in a changing city.
This reopening also marks McDonald’s Malaysia’s first restaurant refurbishment of the year, reflecting its continued focus on keeping neighbourhood outlets relevant, accessible and comfortable for the communities they serve.
“Titiwangsa Drive-Thru is where our Drive-Thru journey in Malaysia began, and it has grown alongside this community for 38 years,” said Dato’ Haji Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia. “This upgrade ensures the restaurant continues to feel welcoming, comfortable and relevant for families, workers and residents who have made it part of their daily routines.”
Built for Today’s Community
The refurbished outlet has been thoughtfully upgraded to better serve its surroundings. It now features an expanded dining area with 180 seats, including a first-floor viewing area that offers a more relaxed space for families, groups and regulars to spend time together.
The Drive-Thru lane has been enhanced to improve traffic flow and speed during peak hours, while a new Playland adds a family-friendly touch for those dining with young children. An upgraded surau further supports the needs of both customers and crew.
Together, these improvements reposition McDonald’s Titiwangsa as more than just a quick stop but a casual neighbourhood space to meet, rest and reconnect.
Malaysia’s First Luna Design Restaurant
Beyond functionality, the reopening introduces something entirely new: the Luna store design, making Titiwangsa the first Luna-concept McDonald’s in Malaysia and the second in Asia.
Inspired by natural elements, particularly the movement of the moon and the presence of nearby banyan trees, the Luna concept blends contemporary architecture with warmth, openness and togetherness. The exterior features perforated metal panels unique to the Titiwangsa outlet, evoking moon phases and paired with warm lighting that gives the restaurant a distinct visual identity both day and night.
With its reopening, McDonald’s Titiwangsa Drive-Thru steps into a new era, honouring its legacy as Malaysia’s first Drive-Thru, while embracing a renewed identity as one of Kuala Lumpur’s newest modern community landmarks.
