30 Years, 8.6 Million Curry Puffs. IKEA Malaysia Sets Record for the Nation’s Favourite Bite

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 May 2026 – What started as a simple snack has grown into a national favourite. IKEA Malaysia has officially been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for the Most Curry Puffs Sold in a Year, with an impressive 8.6 million curry puffs sold nationwide.

For three decades, IKEA Malaysia curry puffs have been more than just a quick bite. They have become part of Malaysians’ everyday routines from post-shopping treats to shared moments with family and friends.

“This recognition is not just about the number. It is about the millions of moments behind it,” said Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia.

“This is more than a record for us. In Malaysia, food is how we connect, how we take a break, how we spend time together. To know that our curry puffs have been part of those everyday moments for so many people that’s what truly means the most to us”.

More than just a record, the achievement reflects IKEA Malaysia’s commitment to offering food that is affordable, accessible, and made with quality in mind proving that great taste does not have to come at a high price.

“IKEA Food has always been an important part of the overall IKEA experience,” added Raymand Yeastman, IKEA Malaysia Food Manager.

“Our curry puffs are a familiar favourite, and this milestone shows how something simple can bring people together across generations.”

From a National Record to a Nationwide Celebration Malaysians Can Join

Building on this milestone, IKEA Malaysia is inviting Malaysians to be part of the celebration through its #IKEAripapYourWay campaign.

Inspired by the Malaysia Book of Records achievement, the campaign encourages Malaysians to create and share their own playful, over-the-top “records” with IKEA curry puffs turning a national milestone into thousands of personal ones.

In true IKEA spirit, the moment was shared with customers on the ground, with 500 curry puffs given away on 8 May across 4 stores because some milestones are best enjoyed fresh and flaky.

As IKEA Malaysia celebrates its 30th anniversary, the brand continues to focus on creating better everyday experiences for many Malaysians in ways both big and small, from home furnishing to the food enjoyed along the way.

After all, some of the most meaningful memories are the ones we share, one bite at a time.
