Google today announced the official launch of the YouTube Creators for Impact programme in Malaysia, bringing together trusted local creators to champion online safety and empower parents through educational content as online safety becomes an increasingly important conversation for Malaysian families.
This rollout builds on YouTube’s long-standing commitment to creating a safer and more responsible online ecosystem. With 72% of Malaysian parents stating that using digital safety or educational tools together with their child helps them feel more confident discussing online safety, the programme harnesses the influence of trusted local creators to spotlight such tools and make these conversations more accessible and relatable for families.
To help Malaysian families cultivate good digital habits at home, Google has mobilised the Lighthouse Creators – a group of six prominent homegrown voices chosen for their credibility, positive influence, and unique ability to spark meaningful conversations. The lineup includes A Lad and a Dad, Aqil Zulkiflee, Fourfeetnine, FU LOVE, Im_siowei and JE Pong.
Over the next two months, these creators will collaborate with industry experts and peers in intensive workshops, gaining practical insights into critical online safety issues specifically parental controls and youth well-being. Armed with this knowledge, they will produce content focused on three core pillars:
- Smart Guardrails: Practical tips on navigating parental tools and safety features.
- Digital Wellness: Practical strategies for building healthy tech habits at home.
- Purposeful Tech: Leveraging technology as a powerful tool for learning and skill-building.
YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications in Malaysia, said, “Building a secure and resilient digital ecosystem is a core national priority, but achieving a truly safe online space requires a shared commitment between the government, industry leaders and communities. We commend Google’s proactive efforts to build a digitally secure community in Malaysia by utilising our nation’s vibrant creator ecosystem.”
Ben King, Managing Director of Google Malaysia and Singapore, said, “At Google, we believe in protecting kids in, not from, the digital world, which is why we have invested for over a decade to give Malaysian families the tools they need to explore our platform safely. Having our creators join this vital conversation to help families build healthy online habits and confidently leverage our safety guardrails is incredibly powerful. We continue to be inspired by their creativity and dedication to imparting this important information in relatable ways. By combining our technology with trusted local voices, we hope to give Malaysian families the confidence to build a more secure digital world”
JE Pong, one of the C4I Lighthouse Creators said: “Years ago, I came to YouTube as an artist chasing creative dreams. Fast forward to today, I look at it through the lens of a mother invested in what the next generation consumes online. While a fast-moving digital world can feel overwhelming, our responsibility is not to fear technology, but to master it with confidence. Knowing platforms like YouTube embed safety features into the everyday experience gives families like mine real peace of mind. Through Creators for Impact, I hope to use my voice to bridge the gap between technology and parenting, helping more children explore, learn, and grow safely.”
