Jadi Batek And Bokitta Launch “The Art Series”: Celebrating Merdeka 2026 Through Handcrafted Batik Hijabs

In honor of Merdeka 2026, premier Malaysian batik house Jadi Batek has partnered with international modest-fashion pioneer Bokitta to unveil The Art Series, a groundbreaking collection of six floral-inspired, pinless ready-to-wear hijabs developed directly from handcrafted batik artwork. The collection officially debuted today at an exclusive launch event and media preview titled “Beyond the Scarf: Motifs in Motion” hosted at the iconic Jadi Batek Gallery in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

The colourful launch event brought together members of the press, prominent influencers and local celebrities, all elegantly decked out in the newly launched scarves. To fully appreciate the intricate craftsmanship behind the collaboration, guests participated in an immersive batik drawing workshop, using traditional tools to create their own batik art alongside Jadi Batek’s master artisans.

The Art Series represents a seamless fusion of cultural heritage and contemporary functionality. By translating traditional hand-painted batik motifs into Bokitta’s patented pinless structures, the collaboration celebrates Malaysian artistic identity while offering women worldwide an effortless, elevated wearing experience.

Bridging Heritage Craftsmanship and Modern Design

The Art Series was born from a shared vision to honor Malaysian culture through wearable art. Pieces from the collection were unveiled for the first time and artfully showcased today at the launch event venue. Bokitta established the creative and floral direction for the collection, establishing themes inspired by natural balance, botanicals, and feminine grace. Master artisans at Jadi Batek then meticulously translated these concepts into original master paintings using centuries-old techniques by hand-drawing intricate wax lines with traditional canting tools, applying vibrant dyes  and carefully fixing colors.

Once perfected, these physical batik paintings were digitalised and artfully reinterpreted by Bokitta’s design team onto their signature pinless scarf silhouettes, ensuring that every fold and drape showcases the authentic texture, depth and organic variations characteristic of true handcrafted batik.

The Collection: Six Handcrafted Floral Masterpieces

Each print in The Art Series embodies a distinct emotional rhythm and natural aesthetic. Valentina, Verde, Bellina, Solea, Rosewater and Azura each capture the delicate beauty of botanical life through traditional wax lines and rich hues.

The Artisan Process: From Wax to Wearable Art

Unlike standard mass-produced prints, every design in The Art Series traces its roots back to an intensive six-step artisan journey completed inside the workshops of Jadi Batek:

  • Sketching: Outlining botanical concepts on raw fabric.
  • Waxing: Hand-drawing intricate lines using traditional canting tools.
  • Colouring: Applying rich, layered dyes to bring motifs to life.
  • Fixing: Locking in the vibrant colors to ensure longevity.
  • Wax Removal: Boiling the fabric to reveal distinct wax-resist lines.
  • Wash & Dry: Final rinsing and setting of the finished artwork.
