Jaya Grocer Secures JAKIM Halal Certification for JS Meats Range

By ilyalya 2 min read

Jaya Grocer has officially secured Halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) for its JS Meats range.

The certification extends Halal assurance beyond sourcing to meat processing and handling at Jaya Grocer’s Central Kitchen. It further strengthens transparency and customer confidence throughout the journey from source to shelf.

Under its private-label brand, Jaya Grocer Selection (JS Brand), JS Meats offers more than 150 stock-keeping units (SKUs). The range includes steaks, sausages, patties and other meat selections across 63 Jaya Grocer outlets nationwide.

Halal Assurance from Processing to Shelf

The certification follows 12 months of preparation, process reviews and alignment with applicable Halal requirements. It covers the preparation, cutting, handling and packing of JS Meats products at the Central Kitchen.

Previously, Jaya Grocer sourced its meat from Halal-certified suppliers. The latest certification extends this assurance to its own processing and handling operations.

“Halal assurance has been part of the JS Meats journey from the start, beginning with our sourcing from Halal-certified suppliers,” said Daniel Teng, Chief Executive Officer of Jaya Grocer.

“This new certification represents the next step in that journey, extending the assurance into our own processing and handling operations,” he added.

Jaya Grocer also draws on its in-house meat expertise to maintain professional preparation standards. Its Master Butcher brings more than 18 years of experience in meat preparation and butchery.

The Master Butcher works with butchers and staff at selected outlets. This includes providing practical training in cutting techniques, preparation and handling.

Celebrating the Milestone with a Live Meat-Cutting Experience

Jaya Grocer marked the certification at its KL East Mall outlet. The event brought together representatives from JAKIM and Jaya Grocer’s leadership team.

The celebration also featured a “From Cut to Cook” experience. Guests watched a live meat-cutting demonstration by Jaya Grocer’s Master Butcher.

Participants then joined a hands-on cook-off challenge to apply what they had learned. The session highlighted the craftsmanship behind JS Meats and its preparation processes.
