Made in Malaysia! Locally Developed Cargo Scanner Technology Reaches Saudi Arabia

Efforts to strengthen controls at the country’s entry points continue to be enhanced through the use of more efficient cargo scanning systems. This initiative is important to ensure that inspections of imported and exported goods can be carried out more effectively, while helping to reduce various risks, particularly revenue leakages.

The use of more advanced cargo scanning technology not only helps detect and combat smuggling activities but also plays a role in reducing government revenue losses. Indirectly, these efforts also contribute to increased tax revenue collection.

However, it must also be acknowledged that the effectiveness of technology does not depend solely on how sophisticated the machines are, but also requires efficient operation to minimise potential risks.

Interestingly, this cargo scanning technology was developed by leveraging the expertise of local talents from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and has now also received orders from Saudi Arabia.

This development demonstrates that Malaysian-made technology has the capability to compete and gain recognition internationally.

What makes it even more remarkable is that the technology was developed with the expertise of 12 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) holders from UTM. The company behind the technology has also been operating for more than 10 years in the cargo scanner manufacturing industry and has experience developing technology used in real-world operations.

Apart from meeting domestic needs, the products have also been exported to various countries and have received recognition and certifications such as MySTI, Made in Malaysia and Malaysian National Brand.

In fact, the company is among those in Southeast Asia developing cargo scanning technology that meets international standards, further demonstrating the capabilities of local industries in producing high-impact technologies.

Indirectly, efforts to introduce this technology to wider markets have also opened up opportunities for more companies to develop their own technologies.

The younger generation can also take advantage of these opportunities to explore the fields of science, technology and innovation, whether at public or private higher education institutions.

With more high-impact technologies developed by local talents, Malaysia has the potential to continue growing as a technology hub capable of competing on the global stage.
