Someone Wrote To Tun Mahathir With 4 Personal Questions, And He Replied

Malaysia is mourning the loss of Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, who stood alongside her husband, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, through decades of the country’s history.

As Malaysians remember her life and contributions, attention has also turned to Tun Mahathir, who has spent much of his life in public service.

In a personal exchange shared on Threads. one Malaysian revealed that they had written a letter to Tun Mahathir on 9 September 2026, asking four questions about his life, experiences as a leader and hopes for Malaysia’s future.

What they probably didn’t expect was to receive a reply from the man himself.

Rather than asking about political controversies or current issues, the questions touched on his happiest and most difficult memories, the biggest challenge he faced as Prime Minister, his concerns about Malaysia’s future and the advice he would give younger Malaysians.

His answers were brief, but they touched on some big topics, including corruption, loyalty to the country and the importance of protecting Malaysia’s independence.

Here are the four questions and the responses shared by the letter writer.

1. What Were The Sweetest And Most Difficult Moments Of His Life?

After more than 100 years of life, Tun Mahathir was asked to look back on the moments that brought him the greatest happiness and disappointment.

His answer?

“My sweetest memory was when I was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister. My most aggrieved memory was when my party rejected my advice.”

While one moment marked a major milestone in his political career, the other reflected a difficult experience involving his own party.

2. What Was His Biggest Challenge As Prime Minister?

Leading a country comes with plenty of responsibilities, but what did Tun Mahathir consider his greatest challenge during his time as Prime Minister?

He answered:

“The greatest challenge was carrying out my duties fully without involving corruption.”

His response put the focus on integrity and the responsibility that comes with holding public office.

3. What Worries Him Most About Malaysia’s Future?

When asked what concerned him most about the possibility of something happening to Malaysians in the future, Tun Mahathir pointed to the country’s independence.

“We could lose our country and be colonised again.”

It was a short answer, but one that highlighted his concern about Malaysia’s future and the importance of protecting its sovereignty.

4. What Advice Would He Give Younger Malaysians?

For the final question, the letter writer asked what advice he would give to Malaysians, particularly the younger generation.

His response was straightforward:

“Be loyal to the country. Do not get involved in corruption.”

No long speech, just two clear messages about patriotism and integrity.
