Malaysian YouTube Creators Team Up to Champion Digital Safety Through Creators for Impact

Three-month initiative equips Malaysian families with practical tips on screen-time management and digital wellbeing.

YouTube today marked the culmination of its inaugural Creators for Impact programme in the presence of Guest of Honour YB Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications, showcasing how six homegrown creators are helping Malaysian families navigate online safety and build healthier digital habits through practical, relatable content.

From L-R: Aloysius Chin (@ALadAndADad), Mediha Mahmood, Executive Director of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Content Forum; Audrey Ooi (@FourFeetNine), Dikshant Chopra, Head of YouTube Partnership, Google SEA; YB Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications, Malaysia; Lim Siow Wei (@im_siowei), Curtis Fu (@FULove), David Weller, Senior Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Southeast Asia and Taiwan, Google; Pong Jie Yi (@pongent_official), LS. Leonard, Chief Legal Counsel, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

Launched in July, the three-month programme brought together  A Lad and a Dad, Aqil Zulkiflee, Fourfeetnine, FU LOVE,  Im_siowei and JE Pong, who developed content addressing everyday digital challenges faced by parents and young people – from managing screen time and navigating parental controls to building healthier relationships with technology.

Collectively, the videos created by these six creators have reached millions of subscribers. Over the three-month programme, the creators have generated videos focusing on their personal parenting experiences, tips to balance their children’s screen time and the digital tools that families can use to manage their family’s relationship with devices.

Bringing Digital Safety Into Everyday Life

Each creator approached digital safety through the lens of their own experiences, audiences and content styles:

  • A Lad and a Dad showed how his family uses tools such as Google Family Link and YouTube Kids to guide his children towards more responsible device use
  • Aqil Zulkiflee used a family challenge to highlight healthy digital habits, moving from YouTube Kids screen time to an offline activity that encouraged quality family bonding.
  • FourFeetNine turned the conversation over to her children, asking them candid questions about social media, online behaviour and whether young people feel comfortable speaking to their parents when something goes wrong online.
  • FU LOVE took a practical parenting approach, demonstrating how features such as daily limits can help families establish healthier digital routines while encouraging children to use technology more purposefully
  • Im_siowei used her signature short-form storytelling to explore screen-time boundaries
  • JE Pong wove digital safety into a real family moment, using her gender reveal vlog to highlight YouTube Kids and the parental tools available to help parents shape a safer viewing experience for their children.

YB Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications in Malaysia, said, “Google is at the forefront of working together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Content Forum to make sure that the Internet is a safer place for our children. YouTube creators play an important role, and we want to collaborate to create fun and relevant content for younger audiences, and impart that sense of being more careful when using the Internet. I would like to applaud Google for organising this meaningful event, and look forward to having more engagements and further expanding this programme.”

Ben King, Managing Director of Google Malaysia, said, “Safety tools are most effective when families know how to use them in everyday life. Through Creators for Impact, our Lighthouse Creators have translated topics like parental controls, screen time and digital wellbeing into practical, relatable guidance for their communities. As a platform for learning and discovery, YouTube helps bring these conversations to life through content that is engaging, accessible and relevant to everyday experiences. This demonstrates the important role trusted local voices can play in helping families build healthier digital habits and navigate technology safely and confidently.”

Siowei, one of the Lighthouse Creators, said, “Young people spend so much of their lives online, and simply telling them what they should or shouldn’t do isn’t always enough. As creators, we understand the kind of content they already enjoy and the way they communicate, so we have an opportunity to make topics like screen time and  online wellbeing feel more natural and relatable. One of my biggest takeaways from Creators for Impact is that digital safety content doesn’t have to feel like safety content when the message fits naturally into the stories people already want to watch, it becomes much easier to understand and remember.”
