voco Kuching Strengthens Sarawak’s Business Events Offering

Bringing together more than 2,400 square metres of meeting and event space, 321 guestrooms and suites, and one of Kuching’s largest hotel ballrooms, voco Kuching is expanding the options available to organisers looking to host business events in Sarawak.

Malaysia’s first voco hotel by IHG Hotels & Resorts offers a comprehensive meetings and events proposition designed for gatherings of different scales and formats — from focused board meetings and corporate functions to exhibitions, gala dinners, conferences and large-scale conventions.

Located just five minutes from Kuching International Airport and approximately 15 minutes from the city centre, voco Kuching combines event spaces, accommodation, dining and leisure facilities in one destination, giving organisers the flexibility to bring different elements of an event together under one roof.

Purpose-Built for Events of Every Scale

At the heart of the hotel’s Business Events offering is the Rainforest Ballroom, one of Kuching’s largest hotel ballrooms, accommodating up to 1,350 guests and supported by a collection of function and meeting rooms for smaller gatherings, breakout sessions and supporting programmes.

The variety of spaces allows organisers to create different event formats within the hotel – from plenary sessions and exhibitions to workshops, networking functions and gala dinners – while keeping delegates and activities conveniently connected.

Since opening, voco Kuching has hosted several major corporate, association and large-scale events, demonstrating the versatility of its spaces and the team’s ability to support events with different operational requirements. Among these was an international event welcoming more than 1,200 delegates from six countries, demonstrating the hotel’s capacity to deliver complex programmes at scale.

Designed Around the Way Events Work

Every meeting and event space is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, integrated audiovisual systems, adjustable lighting and flexible seating configurations, allowing spaces to adapt to different programme requirements – from board meetings and presentations to conferences, launches and gala dinners.

Supporting the facilities is a dedicated events team working alongside organisers throughout the planning and delivery process, providing a single point of contact from initial planning through to event execution.

“Every event comes with different priorities, and flexibility was important to us from the beginning,” said Magdalina Chung, General Manager of voco Kuching.

“Whether it is a focused corporate meeting, a gala dinner or a large-scale conference, we want organisers to have the space, support and flexibility to shape the event around what they need. And with accommodation, dining and leisure facilities all within the hotel, we are able to look after much more than just the meeting itself.”

Everything in One Place

Beyond its event facilities, voco Kuching offers 321 guestrooms and suites, allowing delegates and organisers to stay within the same venue throughout multi-day programmes. The hotel is also home to LUMA, its all-day dining restaurant; AMPM, its café and bar; an outdoor swimming pool; and a 24-hour fitness centre.

As part of the redeveloped Wisma Elica, the hotel brings together hospitality, dining, wellness and event spaces, giving organisers greater flexibility to shape programmes beyond the formal agenda – from working lunches and networking sessions to dinners and social gatherings.

For delegates, this means less time moving between venues and more opportunities to connect, dine, unwind and experience the destination as part of the overall programme.

Beyond The Meeting Room

Kuching adds another dimension to the delegate experience, with its food, multicultural heritage and natural attractions giving organisers opportunities to incorporate local experiences into incentive programmes and pre- or post-event itineraries.

Delegates can explore the Kuching Waterfront and Sarawak Museum Campus or venture further to attractions including Bako National Park and Semenggoh Nature Reserve. These experiences provide opportunities for delegates to discover more of Sarawak while extending their time in the destination.

For those with limited time between meetings, Best Borneo Sarawak, the hotel’s curated in-house boutique, provides convenient access to Sarawak-made products, handcrafted souvenirs and locally produced specialities without having to leave the hotel.

Building Momentum

Since opening, voco Kuching’s growing calendar of corporate, association and large-scale events have provided an early demonstration of the range of programmes the hotel is equipped to support.

That momentum continues from 15 to 17 October 2026, when voco Kuching will serve as the official venue for the 23rd Diabetes Asia Conference (DAC) 2026, welcoming hundreds of healthcare professionals, researchers and specialists from across Asia and beyond.

As Malaysia’s first voco hotel, voco Kuching adds a new premium option to Sarawak’s Business Events landscape, combining scale, flexibility, airport connectivity, accommodation and dedicated event support in one location.

For organisers, it means more ways to meet, more room to bring people together, and more of Sarawak to experience beyond the meeting room.
