As an athlete, an injury is certainly difficult to avoid. In fact, injuries are among the things that athletes fear in their entire career, especially serious injuries.
A weightlifter from Russia suffered a horrible injury while trying to lift a 400kg weight. In the terrible incident, the weightlifter named Alexander Sedykh has fractured both of his knees.
The serious injury recently happens at the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) European Championships, where Sedykh was the defending champion.
While attempting to lift the 400kg weight, Sedykh’s knees suddenly lost balance causing him to fall to the ground screaming in pain.
Medics and officials quickly rushed to his aid and Sedykh was immediately transferred to hospital for surgery. It is believed that he is suffered with fractured knees and required his quadriceps muscles to be reattached.
“The main thing is that I must lie motionless in bed for two months,” said Sedykh.
“Then I’ll be taught how to walk again,” he continued.
The surgery that Sedykh’s underwent took more than six hours.
“It’ll take time to recuperate,” he said.
“I’ve had my quadriceps re-sewn and my knees put back together,” Sedykh’s added.
It is currently unknown whether he will continue his weightlifting career or not.
