Doctors in India are believed to have successfully removed the world’s largest ovarian tumor weighing 54 kilograms from a 52-year-old woman.
The woman, who did not want to be known, had previously complained that her weight had started to rise sharply and she could not walk because her legs were starting to swell.
She did not know that a large tumor had grown on her ovaries and affected 45 percent of his total weight.
The woman underwent surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi.
“I have not witnessed anything like this ever before during my profession – in over three decades of experience,” said Dr. Arun Prasad who led the surgery on the woman to remove the tumor.
“We should consider it as a miracle that the woman is recuperating well after being operated on for over 180 minutes,” he added.
The weight on the tumor is believed can cause her ovaries to explode if left untreated. The woman had undergone a blood transfusion before undergoing surgery due to anemia.
Dr. Prasad praised his team for the extraordinary efforts they made while removing the tumor.
“I see it as an incredible achievement the way the operation has been done. There was no room for error. The team put in commendable efforts, to say the least,” said Dr. Prasad.
