All New Cases Of Tawar Cluster Today Involve Students In A Primary School In Kedah

Today, the Malaysian Ministry of Health reported 5 new cases of Covid-19 from Tawar Cluster in Kedah today. Making the total number of cases in this cluster is 70 cases so far.

The five new cases today involved students of a primary school in the state of Kedah. Here is the full statement from MOH about Bargain Cluster.

OFFER CLUSTER REPORTS FIVE (5) NEW CASES

MOH would like to inform that there are 5 new cases reported for Bargain Cluster today, bringing the total number of cases in this cluster to 70 cases so far. These five new cases involve students of a primary school in the state of Kedah.

They have been identified through Active Case Detection and close contact screening of these positive cluster cases. The results of the investigation found that they were in close contact with the 9197 case which was a preschool student (this case was reported on 16 August 2020).

As of August 25, 2020 at 12 noon, a total of 3,547 people have been screened in this cluster. The breakdown of screening by state involved is as follows:
i. Kedah (3,018 filtered):

  • 59 cases detected positive COVID-19;
  • 2,717 negative individuals; and
  • 242 individuals are still awaiting results

ii. Penang (518 filtered):

  • 11 cases detected positive for COVID-19; and
  • 507 negative individuals.

iii. Silver: Remains 11 filters, where all are negative. No new filters. Close contact screening and field activities will continue.

MOH would like to remind all schools to comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and the National Security Council (MKN) including SOPs before, during and after school sessions. Parents should also play a role in advising and educating their children who are still in school about the practices that need to be practiced to prevent COVID-19 infection in school buses, classrooms and during any sports or curriculum activities.
