Monday, August 31, Paule and Pit turned one-year-old and celebrate it with a cake made by the zookeepers from apples, sweet potatoes, and beetroot. It featured carrots for candles and was decorated with bamboos.
It said that for both panda to survive is usually a rare situation. This makes Paule and Pit’s first birthday all that more special. Both of them now weighs more than 150 times when they were babies. Currently reached about 60 pounds after both being born weighing less than half a pound. According to a local press release, said that the twins were like transforming from ‘tiny wriggling pink babies into big strong bears’.
Estimated that there are only 1,864 adult giant pandas living in their natural habitat worldwide, and they are classed as ‘vulnerable’ on the IUCN Red List. This is the reason why births like Paule ad Pit’s massively important to giant pandas’ conservation.
Giant pandas only be held by the Berlin Zoo in Germany and welcomed the twins’ mother and father, Meng Meng, and Jiao Qing, to the zoo family back in 2017. Both are on loan from China – pandas are scared there, and all the world’s pandas remain the property of the country.
All panda cubs, Paule and Pit will spend for years with their mother after birth. After this time, they will head to China together.
