KUALA NERUS, Dec 24 — With the end of the fourth wave of flood in Terengganu yesterday, it is now a period of “calm” for the residents, especially with the forecast of fine weather and no continuous heavy rain for the next few days.

The director at the Terengganu Meteorological Office, Rosli Zakaria, when contacted by Bernama, said there is forecast of rain in the morning or evening,  but it will not be heavy and continuous.

However, he said, residents in the state should remain alert as the Northeast Monsoon phase or monsoon season has not ended yet.

He did not rule out the possibility of episodes of heavy rain again at the end of the year or early next year.

“MetMalaysia (Malaysian Meteorological Department) will continue to monitor the situation. All state meteorological offices and major meteorological offices, namely our monitoring stations, operate 24 hours a day and we always provide updates on the weather,  especially to the state disaster management secretariat,” he added.

He said the Terengganu Meteorological Office always communicates with all the disaster management agencies in the state, especially the Civil Defence Force (APM) to channel information on the latest weather condition to enable them to make the necessary preparations.

Terengganu was hit by the first wave of flood for three days beginning  Nov 17,  while the second wave was from Nov 23 to Dec 2.

The third wave hit the state late Dec 2 and lasted until Dec 9, with the fourth, a week later until Dec 23.
