KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 — The title ‘Ittihad’ sung by popular local nasyid group Rabbani won the ‘Best Nasyid Song’ award at the inaugural Malaysian Nasyid Awards (ANAM 2020) held here tonight.
The song was composed by Azmee Abdul Manap, or better known as Daqmie.
Among the other award winners were the Inteam group for the ‘Nasyid of Choice’ award; Aniq Muhai (Debut Nasyid Artiste of Choice); Nissa Sabyan (Archipelago Nasyid Artiste of Choice); Sakit (Best Nasyid Song Recording); Omar K (Best Nasyid Music Composition); Rabbani (Best Nasyid Vocals) and Ito Lara (Best Nasyid Lyrics).
There was no winner announced for the Best Music Video award, while two special awards namely the Khalifah Award and Tour Award were won by the Raihan and Inteam groups respectively.
ANAM 2020 was organised by the Malaysian Nasyid Entrepreneurs Council (Munsyid) with the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia and the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs).
The awards ceremony received 585 entries across nine categories and two special awards dedicated to individuals or groups rated by the jury as having outstanding achievements.
The event was also attended by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri and Ministry of Communications and Multimedia secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin said this was the first time two ministries officially supported the nasyid awards.
“Alhamdulillah, the performances (by the artistes) have been great and there is quality in the awards won by the winners, and we see now that there are new groups, as well as new singers.
“We hope with the success tonight, we can continue this as an annual event, and it is my aspiration as well as that of Dr Zul (Zulkifli Mohamad) that next year, we shall hold an international-level Malaysian nasyid awards,” he said.
In the meantime, Zulkifli Mohamad said such events could help unearth extraordinary talent, besides showing the outstanding preaching efforts of individuals and groups.
“Similarly, the awards presented are a clear signal that Malaysia deserves to be an international nasyid hub one day,” he said.
ANAM 2020 was held in compliance with standard operating procedures under the new norms to curb the spread of COVID-19, and also featured a sign language interpreter, the first for an entertainment event.
The event was also graced with performances from leading national artistes such as Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Ali Terra Rossa, Akhil Hayy and Altimet, as well as popular nasyid groups Brothers, Rabbani, Raihan and Hijjaz.
