In the year 2021, LEGO has officially released a trio of sets to commemorate the Chinese Lunar New Year festivities. All of the particular sets are now available in Malaysia. Excitingly, they would include Lego Story of Nian, Lego Spring Lantern Festival, and also Lego Duplo Town Happy Childhood Moments.
Rohan Mathur who is the Marketing Director of Lego Southeast Asia said, “All these novelties are rooted firmly with the Chinese culture and values, and provide a common ground for children and families to build and play together. Alongside the local mall activities, we hope to bring the Lego play closer to the hearts of our consumers and support the children with learning through the gift of play experiences this Chinese New Year”.
1) Lego Story of Nian
It was inspired by the Chinese legend in which a mythical beast Nian comes around to attack villagers every Spring. It is then only driven away by the color red, fire, and loud noise. Villagers then would also stay up late to ‘keep a watch for Nian’ during the eve of Chinese New Year. This set will have a traditional Asian residence with elements such as firecrackers, antithetical couplets, hanging lanterns, lion dance, and even buildable fireworks.
2) Lego Spring Lantern Festival
For this set, it recreates the atmosphere of the festival which marks the end of the lunar new year celebrations. And amongst the two sets, it is not only the more detailed set but the bigger set. This set contains a beautiful traditional Asian-themed pavilion, a buildable bridge and also pond with koi fish, and an Ox lantern illuminated by a particular LEGO light brick.
3) Lego Duplo Town Happy Childhood Moments
The Duplo Town Happy Childhood Moments aims to tap into two critical moments of a toddlers’ life in China—Chinese New Year and kindergarten. It is customized for Chinese pre-school kids, and it can support Chinese parents to teach their preschoolers about the traditions of the lunar new year and key skills to prepare for kindergarten life. This set includes red packets that people always exchange during Chinese New Year, dumplings that people always eat during the festival, and also daily routines items.
They are already available for purchase at the one and only LEGO’s official Shopee online store as well as LEGO’s official website. The price for each set is different because they are different in size and also different in the total amount of LEGO.
