Parents, Erich and Courtney Leidums who live in Fernie, British Columbia teach their three-year-old Adia skiing. They’re teaching the toddler the sport at such a young age to build her confidence and resiliency. But, what they didn’t expect was when the video of their daughter skiing went viral on the internet
In their own Youtube channel ‘That Mountain Life’, it can be seen in one of the videos showing Adia skiing whilst giving herself a pep talk in such a cute way.
In an interview, Erich asked his daughter whether she likes to go slow or fast on the snowy slopes. She excitedly answers ‘fast’. In other videos, Aida is seen excitedly laughing and smiling as she smoothly glides with her skis as well as an adult.
“I’m making my lines,” she said as her father records her confidently goes down the slopes in her pink jacket. She often skied with her siblings August who is 7 years old and Luca, 5.
Their parents always supervise their skiing but let them have the freedom to explore their styles and learn from their mistakes. Although, Adia is seen falling in a few videos but the girl can be seen stay resilient. She always gets back up and tries again, reassuring her parents with a cute ‘I’m okay’. Because she knows she can and her parents are there to help.
“I coined what we do the ‘anti-helicopter parenting,’ said Eirich. Courtney explained that she often worries but it is important for them as parents to let them discover the world on their own. As parents, they want to provide the best example for their children.
“Our goal is to raise confident, caring children who are self-aware and I think that comes to taking risks and allowing them to take risks.” Courtney further added.
