YouTube has previously announced that it will reduce the quality of video streaming in Europe to reduce broadband usage. This is because many people are working from home.
Now, in addition to Europe, YouTube has announced that it will reduce the default streaming quality for all users worldwide over the next month.
Youtube is expected to maintain this setting for a month for users worldwide.
YouTube will begin limiting the default display resolution for all users worldwide to 480p starting today. At any rate, the user can still change to higher resolution settings manually.
“Given the global nature of this crisis, we are expanding that change [to default to SD video] globally starting today,” the internet giant said.
“This update is slowly rolling out, and users can manually adjust the video quality.”
