Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that Ukrainian airspace was closed to all civilian aircraft.
It is understood that in early Thursday morning local time, three Ukrainian airports issued official notices to their respective pilots that were closed for the night and will reopen late Thursday morning.
The closure notice was said to be unusual and sparked speculation that it was linked to rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
One of the largest airports in Ukraine, Kharkiv International Airport, closed the runway until 8.35 am local time.
