Nintendo has released the trailer for the much anticipated Mario movie. The trailer was shown at the New York Comic-Con and on a Nintendo Direct on YouTube earlier today.
The movie is called The Super Mario Bros. Movie which will star Chris Pratt as Mario. Other cast members include Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser.
The trailer begins with a shot of Bowser’s floating island heading towards a penguin kingdom. The penguins threw snowballs at Bowser’s army but were no match for them.
Bowser then destroy the penguin castle gates to find the iconic Super Stars.
Later on we see Mario being teleported through a warp pipe to the Mushroom Kingdom. He meets Toad, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key.
This is the first time we hear Chris Pratt voicing Mario, even though we only get to hear 2 lines from him (“What is this place?” and “Mushroom Kingdom, here we come!” . The trailer then ends with Luigi being chased by a group of Dry Bones.
The plot of the movie is still unknown till now. Fans speculate that it will follow the plot of the original Nintendo Mario games where the plumber is tasked with saving Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser.
Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind the “Despicable Me,” “Minions,” and “Sing” films, collaborated with Nintendo on the film. The Super Mario Bros. Movie will release in theaters on April 7, 2023.
