Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail) informed their current operational and development project of rails under surveillance across LRT, MRT and Monorail in Lembah Klang yesterday through their Facebook page.
Rapid Rail’s service involves the range of the whole LRT, MRT, and Monorail is currently under development. It is to enhance the quality of their service as they value the customer’s satisfaction.
LRT Kelana Jaya Line
- LRT Kelana Jaya Line underwent an efficient improvement after 24 years of operating. It’s a much-needed move since the route’s opening in 1998.
- Now, LRT Kelana Jaya Line operates every 5 minutes during peak hours and 7 minutes outside of that time on working days.
- Only trains that pass the operational qualification test will be used for safety measures. The limited number of available trains is one of the reasons for the train’s delay, especially during peak hours: morning and evening.
- An insufficient supply of tachometers causes the limited number of trains to operate during peak time. A tachometer is a vital component located on the wheels. It serves as an information sender to the control system. The tachometer controls the speed, position and direction of the train.
- As of now, Rapid Rail is still waiting for the tachometer o arrive. Those items were ordered from a supplier in Europe in May 2022.
- Rapid Rail receives a written letter from the supplier. They’ve informed Rapid Rail of the shipment’s delay, and it should reach Malaysia around December 2022. The delay happens as there seems to be a problem with the tachometer’s supply of electronic components.
- All components are expected to reach Rapid Rail from now until Mei 2023. However, they’re discussing with the supplier to get the items sooner than scheduled.
- Thus, after receiving the new components, replacement work will be done quickly, and the train’s frequency will be every 3 minutes starting September 2023.
New Train for LRT Kelana Jaya Line
- Under Kuala Lumpur Additional Vehicles 27 (KLAV27) project, Rapid Rail will receive new 19 trains-4 coaches for this line.
- The trains will be received gradually from June 2023 to December 2024.
- These new trains will replace the two-coaches train operating since 1998.
MRT Kajang Line’s Facilities
- Currently, this route operates with 26 trains with a frequency of 6 minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes outside of peak hours during working days.
- The number of operating trains is limited due to the poor condition of several wheels. It’s found that some need to be replaced immediately.
- The wheels are undergoing immediate replacement progress. Rapid Rail purchased 1040 new wheels and will receive them accordingly.
- The replacement process begins in June 2022 and will be completed around August 2023. For the safety of everyone, the advancement takes more time. They’re ensuring the quality and precision of every step, thus championing the customer’s satisfaction over others.
- Through this improvement, there’ll be more operating trains in the future. The frequency will return to 4 minutes during peak hours in August 2023.
Monorail’s Facilities
- Monorail now operates with 7 sets of trains with a frequency of 7 minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes outside of peak hours on working days.
- Starting in December this year, 8 trains will begin operating. This will decrease the train’s frequency to 6 minutes in peak hours.
- The Monorail is expected to work by using 10 sets of trains with a frequency of 5 minutes, along with the opening of MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 2 in the first quarter of 2023.
- This simultaneous train operation will enhance the interconnectedness of the Monorail and MRT Putrajaya Line as both are integrated with Titiwangsa Station.
Peak Hour Extension
- Prasarana is keen on the user’s suggestions and feedback.
- Starting from 25 October 2022, the new schedule during peak hours will be implemented as in the picture below:
- The peak hour’s extension parallels the frequency of the Rapid Bus for the advantage of public transport users.
- By advancing and extending the peak hour period gradually, Rapid Rail wishes it’ll further improve its competency and gain the trust of train users in Lembah Klang.
