At the 2022 American Music Awards, Taylor Swift was the main winner, taking home a whopping six trophies, including Artist of the Year.
Swift acknowledged that her fans were instrumental in her success. She expressed gratitude for the positive feedback she received from the increased output of her songs.
“In the past few years, I have released more music than I did in the entire decade preceding that,” she said during her acceptance speech.
“I really feel that’s down to the fact that you, the fans, made it clear that you wanted to hear lots of music that I would make — you encouraged me.”
With eight, Bad Bunny was far and away the most-nominated artist for the night. She is followed by Beyoncé, Drake, and Taylor Swift, each of whom received six. In addition to Adele and Harry Styles, The Weeknd also received five nominations.
Taylor Swift now has the most American Music Awards with 40. She surpasses Michael Jackson (26) and Whitney Houston (22).
The American Music Awards saw moore than forty musicians, including Latto, Jack Harlow, and BLACKPINK, nominated for the first time in 2022.
The ceremony had new categories to grab. This includes categories for Favorite K-Pop Artist, Favorite Afrobeats Artist, Favorite Rock Song, and Favorite Rock Album.
Swift also made a surprise appearance whilst the ceremony is taking place. It wasn’t until Red (Taylor’s Version) won Favorite Pop Album when she appeared.
“This album is a re-recorded album, and I cannot tell you how much my re-recorded albums mean to me,” Taylor said in her acceptance speech. “But I never expected or assumed that they would mean anything to you.”
