The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and PDRM deem an explanation from TikTok for the provocative videos found in their app that was labelled paid partnership.
According to the latest report, they have successfully traced three videos containing provocative content.
MCMC released a media statement regarding the three videos of ‘Rusuhan 13 Mei Berbayar’ on their Facebook page yesterday.
They are keen to observe the spread of said videos on TikTok that are continuously shared on social media. After close inspection, it’s reported that three clips stated above warning about the next ‘Rusuhan 13 Mei 1969’ were indeed paid content.
Alongside PDRM, they’ve called upon TikTok’s management to immediately explain the significance of the misleading content found on their app.
Provocative videos can be misleading
Moreover, the spread of these videos has invoked disharmony, hatred, prejudice, and confusion in many Malaysians. This act falls under the Kanun Keseksaan (Akta 574) and punishes the doer to a fine or jail time, or both if guilty.
Any extensive spread of misinformation is irresponsible behaviour. It not only separates the people but can also trigger fear, hatred and prejudice among them. As we live in a multiracial society, this issue could lead to dangerous outcomes if not stopped instantly.
Furthermore, MCMC and PDRM are taking multiple initiatives to stop the spread of similar videos that could affect the public’s peace.
MCMC has given a guideline on how to stop spreading false information:
- Don’t share and spread.
- Don’t share the content on different social media platforms.
- Report to MCM if there’s any incitement, provocative or condemning religions, the Royal Institution or racism evident in the content through:
- Aduan MCMC System https://aduan.skmm.gov.my
- Call 1800-188-030
- Whatsapp at 016-2206-262
- Emel to [email protected]
