According to a report several weeks ago, our country, Malaysia is expected to experience low temperatures in all states. The cold weather would begin in November and lasts until February.

The phenomenon is a follow-up to the North East Monsoon involving cold winds from mainland China. Besides that, it is also caused by the formation of rain clouds in November.

Malaysia is not the only country that is experiencing this cold temperature. The capital cities in ASEAN countries recorded low temperatures. For instance, Hanoi in Vietnam recorded a temperature of 12 °C. Meanwhile, in Vientiane, Laos, the temperature drops to 15 °C. Furthermore, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the temperature is 20 °C.

ASEAN countries that are close to the equator recorded slightly higher temperatures. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, the temperature is 23 °C. While in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Singapore, these countries are experiencing a temperature of 24 °C. In Manila, Philippines, the temperature recorded is 26 °C.

Bangkok, Thailand, and Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar’s temperatures drop drastically. The temperature in the countries is 19°C and 21 °C.

According to a meteorologist at University of Malaya, Prof Datuk Azizan Abu Bakar, the North East Monsoon affects the amount of sunlight received in Malaysia. Aside from that, it is also due to the factors of cloudy weather and rain. The North East wind from Siberia is also one of the factors for the cold weather.
