South Korea made another headline in the news today. Six people were killed, 37 were injured, and at least 44 vehicles were destroyed in a tragic accident.
A freight truck collided with a bus at around 1:49 pm (12:49 pm MYT). The accident happened in the expressway tunnel in Gwacheon, South Korea. The accident caused a fire that killed six people and injured 37 people.
However, the cause of the accident has yet to be discovered. No explanations are given to disclose the collision, the fire and what the cargo truck was carrying.
According to South Korea’s National Fire Agency, three of the 37 victims were severely injured, while 34 of the rest were stable with no serious injuries. However, as reported, the death toll will be highly likely to increase.
Not only that, but at least 20 people suffered smoke inhalation from the huge blaze.
Thankfully, the fire was tamed around 2:40 pm (1:40 pm MYT), and the situation was under control.
Fire officials stated the collision happened inside a noise-barrier tunnel on the highway. The fire spread quickly from the truck. Thus, the bus was also affected by the rapid fire.
There were more than 200 people reported the accident by calling the emergency services.
The accident marks another tragic day in South Korea’s history after the Sewol ferry tragedy and Itaewon’s Halloween crowd crush.
We hope everyone affected will be safe, and our hearts reach out to each of them.
