foodpanda Malaysia Rolls Out ‘pandasafe’, A Nationwide Safety Ecosystem for Riders, Backed by Public-Private Partnership

foodpanda Malaysia has launched pandasafe, a first-of-its-kind nationwide rider safety programme, in collaboration with key public and private sector partners including Allianz Malaysia Berhad, Hong Leong Bank, PERKESO, and Hong Leong Yamaha Motor.

The long-term initiative, unveiled at foodpanda’s headquarters and officiated by YB Anthony Loke, Minister of Transport Malaysia, aims to build a permanent safety culture for Malaysia’s growing gig economy workforce.

“The safety of our delivery partners must be treated as a national priority,” said YB Anthony Loke. “pandasafe sets a new benchmark for how companies can take responsibility in making our roads safer for gig workers.”

Unlike one-off awareness campaigns, pandasafe is a data-driven, multi-touchpoint safety ecosystem that integrates education, technology, behavioural science, and financial literacy. This approach embeds safety into every stage of a rider’s journey, on and off the road.

Key pandasafe measures include:

  • Structured rider training in safe riding techniques and defensive driving

  • Telematics tools to monitor and improve riding habits

  • First aid and CPR training provided by Allianz Malaysia

  • Social protection and P-Hailing Safety Induction with PERKESO

  • Braking skills and control training with Hong Leong Yamaha Motor

  • Financial literacy programmes with Hong Leong Bank

“Our delivery partners are the heart of foodpanda,” said Tan Ming Luk, Managing Director of foodpanda Malaysia. “pandasafe is not a seasonal campaign; it’s a permanent shift in how we operate, ensuring our riders return home safely every day.”

The programme reflects foodpanda’s broader commitment to rider wellbeing, setting a precedent in the gig economy by going beyond awareness to create lasting protection, empowerment, and accountability.
