Back to School in ‘Riang Ria’ Spirits: Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan & Eco-Shop Support The Youths With RM120,000

Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP), together with Eco-Shop, Malaysia’s leading ultra-affordable household retailer, with the support of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Federal Territory Education Department, Kuala Lumpur (JPWPKL), delivered RM120,000 worth of basic Back to School assistance to 600 underprivileged students to face the upcoming academic year.

Each student was given a RM50 voucher from Eco-Shop. The voucher could be redeemed for school supplies at any of its branches nationwide.

Moreover, each student was also given RM150 in financial assistance from Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan and DBKL. It would be deposited into their school’s PTA account.

The purpose of this cash assistance is to cover students’ PTA fees and other sports/curricular needs.

This effort is to ensure that school students do not drop out and will be able to start their school year with complete needs and better confidence.

Strong Support System from YWP & Eco-Shop for Youths

The handover ceremony at the Mayor’s Courtyard, Rumah Tangsi, brought together 150 primary and secondary school students.

Accompanied by their teachers, the participants represented 30 schools across Kuala Lumpur.

The programme selected students from low-income (B40) families across Kuala Lumpur.

Their presence reinforced the programme’s goal of delivering immediate and practical support to those in need.

This highlights the need for continued efforts between YWP & Eco-Shop to continue to help more recipients not only from Kuala Lumpur but also from Putrajaya and Labuan.

According to Dr Abdul Basir V. Kunhimohamed, Chief Executive Officer of the Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan,

“This corporate-government partnership is a reminder that every individual or organization has a role to play in strengthening the community and supporting the next generation. When we work together with sincere intentions, a small contribution can create a meaningful change in the life of a student in need. Therefore, we welcome all government agencies, corporate companies, and individuals to join us in this noble endeavor”.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Eco-Shop Malaysia, Jessica Ng, said,

“As a brand that serves communities nationwide, we have seen firsthand how the rising cost of living affects families, especially at the start of a new school session. Therefore, we are confident that the collaboration with YWP, DBKL, and JPWPKL will enable us to contribute more sustainably. We see this initiative not only as an aid to students but also as an investment to help future generations who will shape Malaysia’s progress.

Feel the Joy of Riang Ria Hari Sekolah Campaign

Complementing this initiative, Eco-Shop has also introduced the Riang Ria Hari Sekolah campaign, which will run until 11 January 2026 to support families in preparing for the new academic year.

The campaign also highlights the growing concerns among parents in Malaysia who are facing the cost-of-living pressures. This includes the cost of preparing their children for school.

The initiative also serves as a reminder that financial means should not be a barrier to a child’s readiness for school. Those small, smart choices can help ease the burden on a family.

In short, Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, Eco-Shop, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and the Federal Territory Education Department of Kuala Lumpur have jointly reaffirmed their commitment to empowering the younger generation through education.

And through this collaboration, a strong and sustainable support system for the benefit of students, families, and the community in Kuala Lumpur has been built.
