ANNAH RAIS, 25 May 2026 – While many see Gawai as a single festive moment, for the communities who celebrate it, Gawai is a season built through collective effort — from days of preparation and shared labour, to rituals, meals and open doors that bring people together.
This Gawai, Kampung Annah Rais opens its longhouse on 1 & 2 June 2026, inviting locals and visitors alike to step beyond the spectacle and into the heart of a celebration that is actively made by the community. Supported by Coca-Cola Malaysia, the community-led celebration shines a light on the people, processes and shared participation that give Gawai its meaning.
A Celebration Made Together

Rooted in the traditions of the Bidayuh community, Gawai in Kampung Annah Rais is shaped through gotong-royong – from weaving costumes and preparing food, to music, dance and rituals passed down through generations. It is this collective making that creates the unique suasana of Gawai: a sense of warmth, openness and belonging that goes beyond the festivities themselves, where every contribution refreshes the spirit of the community.
Ketua Kaum Annah Rais, Tn Joda Mamung, said:
“Gawai has always been about giving thanks and coming together as a community. It is not something we simply watch – it is something we build together. This year, we are opening our doors wider to welcome others to experience how Gawai is made, and to celebrate alongside us.”
This year’s Gawai in Kampung Annah Rais is shaped by shared effort and participation, with Coca-Cola supporting the community behind the scenes – refreshing the people who make it happen and helping create spaces where connections can naturally come together during moments of work, celebration and rest.

Rather than focusing only on the main celebration days, Coca-Cola supports the many moments that lead up to Gawai – being present through the preparation, the shared meals and the open-house moments that empower the community to share their culture, welcome guests, and bring people together through meaningful experiences
Khairul Anwar, Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Director for Coca-Cola Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, said:
“Gawai is a beautiful reflection of how shared moments bring people closer through culture and tradition. At Coca-Cola, we believe in the power of these connections. We are honoured to support Kampung Annah Rais by enabling these moments of shared making, and by celebrating alongside the community.”
Across the two-day celebration, visitors are invited not just to observe, but to take part in experiences that reflect the spirit of Gawai, including:
- Ngabang (Open House Experience) – Be welcomed into the longhouse and celebrate alongside the community.
- Laser Light Show – A spectacular lighting display set to make history.
- Dayung Sangun Beauty Pageant – A lively showcase of culture, confidence, and tradition.
- Cultural Performances – A musical showcase, featuring performances by Micheal Gayut and Silla.
