GRACSHAW Brings Three Mobile Suit Gundam Icons to the Road in Officially Licensed Helmet Collection

Malaysian motorcycle helmet brand GRACSHAW today unveiled the GRACSHAW x Mobile Suit Gundam limited-edition collection, bringing three of the most recognisable Mobile Suits from the original 1979 television series to the road in designs created for riders and collectors.

Priced at RM498 each, the collection is built on GRACSHAW’s Glaive dual-visor open-face helmet, selected for its clean shell geometry and its ability to present the Mobile Suit detailing with clarity. The collection comprises the RX-78-2 Gundam, MS-06F Zaku II and MS-06S Char’s Zaku II. Each edition has its own numbered production run: 1,500 units of the RX-78-2 Gundam, 1,000 units of Char’s Zaku II and 500 units of the MS-06F Zaku II.

First broadcast in Japan in 1979, Mobile Suit Gundam was created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, whose storytelling brought political conflict, moral complexity and human consequence to the giant-robot genre. Its defining machines were shaped by original mechanical designer Kunio Okawara, whose disciplined visual language gave the Gundam and Zaku their instantly recognisable identities. Together, Tomino’s vision and Okawara’s design laid the foundation for a franchise that has continued to find new audiences while retaining the devotion of fans who grew up with it.

For GRACSHAW, the opportunity was therefore not simply to make a themed helmet, but to create a road-ready piece of Mobile Suit legacy.

More than a graphic treatment, the collaboration sets out to translate the visual identity of each Mobile Suit into a form that can be worn on the road. Its starting point is a belief shared by many enduring designs: a classic remains powerful because its identity is clear. Mobile Suit Gundam’s original mechanical designer, Kunio Okawara, has attributed much of Gundam’s lasting appeal to the simplicity of its composition. GRACSHAW carries that principle into the collection by keeping each helmet unmistakable at first glance, then rewarding closer inspection with layered markings, mechanical detailing and carefully controlled colour.

That same discipline of simplicity guided GRACSHAW’s choice of the Glaive. Within the brand’s helmet range, the Glaive’s clean dual-visor shell provides the least visual competition for the Mobile Suit designs, allowing their colours, markings and mechanical detailing to remain

instantly legible. Its shell geometry also allows the rear ducktail to continue the helmet’s lines as an integrated extension of the design rather than appearing as an accessory added after the fact. Its youthful, style-forward character further makes it a natural fit for a collaboration created not only for display, but for the road.

The open-face format is familiar to Malaysian city riders, who value it for airflow, visibility and convenience during frequent stop-start journeys. For this collection, however, the Glaive is presented in a complete configuration that sets it apart from standard models in the range.

Each GRACSHAW x Mobile Suit Gundam helmet ships with its Gundam-edition rear ducktail fitted as standard, completing the Glaive’s intended aerodynamic configuration straight out of the box. On standard Glaive models, the rear ducktail is available separately as an add-on kit. Here, it is part of the complete limited-edition design, extending the shell’s geometry into a longer, sharper silhouette that gives the helmet a more commanding road presence.

The ducktail also carries the collaboration’s official licensing details with deliberate restraint. It serves as a discreet mark of provenance and a detail for fans who know where to look. Created exclusively for the GRACSHAW x Mobile Suit Gundam collection, the edition-specific ducktail is not available for separate purchase.

“We wanted riders and collectors to see the Glaive at its full potential. With the rear ducktail fitted as standard, the shell and ducktail work as one continuous form, sharpening the aerodynamic profile and giving the helmet a presence that immediately distinguishes it from a standard Glaive. This is not simply another colourway. It is the model in its definitive form and a statement on the road,” said Chiong Sai Weng, Senior Business Development Manager of GRACSHAW.

The three Mobile Suits were selected because together they form part of the visual foundation of the Gundam universe. The RX-78-2 is the heroic white Mobile Suit of the Earth Federation Forces. The green MS-06F Zaku II represents the mass-produced backbone of the Principality of Zeon, while the MS-06S is the customised commander type synonymous with Char Aznable, the Red Comet. Presented together, they capture both sides of the conflict that defined the original series and gave the franchise some of its most enduring silhouettes.

Collectors will notice the treatment of Char’s Zaku II in particular. Although the Mobile Suit is often described simply as red, the helmet takes its colour reference from the corresponding Bandai figure, retaining the distinctive pink and deeper maroon tones associated with Char’s customised unit rather than replacing them with a conventional bright red. To a casual eye, the distinction may seem subtle. To a fan, it is part of what makes the design authentic.

“Mobile Suit Gundam fans do not see these elements as decoration. Every colour, marking and mechanical detail carries meaning. We approached the collection with the discipline of a

collector, creating helmets that remain unmistakably GRACSHAW while respecting the Mobile Suits that inspired them,” Chiong added.

Each helmet is paired with a matching numbered limited-edition card that records its place in the production run. The collector-style set also includes a helmet dust bag, brand card, stickers and user manual, all presented in edition-specific packaging. All three editions are SIRIM-certified and available in sizes S, M, L, XL and 2XL.
