Canon’s New EOS R8 Mark II Packs Full-Frame Power Into A Compact Body

Canon has unveiled the EOS R8 Mark II, a compact full-frame mirrorless camera designed for photographers and content creators who want serious imaging capabilities without carrying a bulky setup.

Weighing approximately 546g, the 24.2-megapixel camera is Canon’s smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless model with In-Body IS, making it a practical option for creators who are constantly on the move.

Despite its compact build, the EOS R8 Mark II comes packed with features usually found on more advanced EOS R models, including a multi-controller joystick for easier autofocus control and 5-axis In-Body IS.

Paired with compatible RF lenses, its Coordinated Control IS system can deliver image stabilisation of up to 7.5 stops at the centre, helping reduce camera shake when shooting handheld.
For action and fast-moving subjects, the camera features Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, Pre-Continuous Shooting and electronic shutter speeds of up to 40fps. It can also prioritise registered people when tracking subjects in crowded scenes.

Made For Creators
The EOS R8 Mark II also puts a stronger focus on creative shooting straight out of the camera.
It introduces new NegativeFilmtone and PositiveFilmtone colour filters, additional colour modes for handheld night photography and an enhanced Creative AUTO mode designed to help users experiment with different looks without relying heavily on post-processing.

Video creators can shoot 6K-oversampled 4K 60p video, Full HD up to 180p with audio and Canon Log 3. The camera also supports multiple livestreaming options, including multi-angle livestreaming through the Live Switcher Mobile app.

For those exploring immersive content, the EOS R8 Mark II is compatible with Canon’s VR lenses and introduces a VR Clear Mode designed to improve contrast and clarity when viewing VR footage.

Canon has also introduced new accessories alongside the camera, including the Extension Grip EG-E2, Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR and Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2).

The EOS R8 Mark II is aimed at creators looking for a camera that can handle everything from everyday photography and travel to fast-paced video and more experimental content, all while keeping the setup relatively lightweight.
