“Our City Is In Middle Of A Second Wave” – Japan Mayor Kitakyushu

Japan might be facing a second wave of COVID-19 after one of their city is already starting to face the infections. It was believed to happen in the city of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan.

More than 100 facilities in the city have been shut down again after it was believed there is a COVID-19 infection that happened. Kitakyushu which has a population of nearly one million had recently just lifted their staying at home and business restrictions.

According to NHK, museums, libraries, and even the Kokura Castle are among the facilities that have suspended operations until June 18.

New infections were recorded in the southwest of Kitakyushu city during 9 straight days, with 97 cases that were recorded. The infection route is untraceable for 34 of them.

5 students in the same class have tested positive COVID-19 in an elementary school. Not just that, another 5 cases have also been confirmed at three other schools. And it makes officials fear that an outbreak might happen.

As a result, the affected schools have been closed. But, other schools in Kitakyushu remain open for morning classes. The board of education is also urging that every student’s physical condition must be monitored by school staff.

“Our city is in the middle of a second wave,” said Kitakyushu mayor, Kitahashi Kenji.

“We’ll do our utmost to contain the virus and ask everyone who came into contact with the infected to undergo tests.” added the mayor.
