The government has approved several guidelines for school sports and co-curricular activities which will take effect from September 1.

Senior Minister (Security), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, it includes the implementation of face-to-face sports and co-curricular school activities, including practical training outside the classroom for Physical Education, Health Education and Sports Science subjects under controlled conditions.

Among the guidelines that need to be followed is to get the written permission of the parents of the students involved, use the bathroom (and) dressing is limited according to capacity.

“Besides, to ensure the physical distance of one to three meters for statistical activities and three to five meters for dynamic activities and equipment must be cleaned and sanitized,” he said in a press conference that was held today.

In the meantime, among the co-curricular activities allowed include sports activities such as football, contact sports (physical contact), hockey, badminton (etc.).

He explained that the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the Malaysian National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports must be followed.

“So, we got a report from the Ministry of Education (MOE), in terms of the child psychology that students have to be in class, eat in class, no outdoor activities. It affects the students.

“That is why now we allow them to be active outside but in a strict SOP and other SOPs must be complied with,” added Ismail.
