Malaysian Drivers Can Face Penalty Up To RM2,000 If Third Brake Light Not Working

The brake lights and taillights are often comprised of one light bulb, but they work differently.

Both brake lights and taillights are necessary for driving, especially during the night or rainy days. They are in place so other drivers can spot you from behind and so that they can brake at a safe distance from you if you stop.

According to PDRM Malaysia, during an event of third brake light not working properly, drivers can face a penalty of up to RM2,000.

NO THIRD BRAKE LIGHTS DANGER THE ROAD USERS BEHIND

Often the absence of a third brake light is taken lightly by car owners. This irresponsible attitude can be dangerous to other users and the chances of being hit from behind are higher especially at night.

Vehicle owners can be prosecuted under section 119 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for general offenses and penalties.

If convicted, a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months.

If it is a second conviction, can be fined up to RM4,000 or jailed for not more than one year or both.
