The President Of Portugal Help Saves Two Women In Trouble At Algarve Beach

Portugal President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has helped two women that were in trouble on the Algarve beach when their kayaks overturned.

After helping them, the 71 years old president told reporters that those women were swept away by the current from the nearby beach to the bay.

Before the incident happened, he was speaking with a journalist at the Praia do Alvor beach when he noticed the women were in trouble. He then swims into the sea to help them.

At that time, another man was already there, trying to help reverse the kayak while someone on a jet ski also approached to help.

The man on the jet ski then managed to pull the kayak back to the beach.

“As there is a very large west current, they were dragged out, turned around, swallowed a lot of water and were not even able to turn (the kayak), nor to climb (on it), or swim, such is the strength of the current,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to local media.

It is said that the Portuguese President is currently on holiday in the Algarve in a bid to promote tourism at the place.

Portugal’s economy is heavily dependent on its tourism industry, which is heavily affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.
