Quarantine has changed our habit of eating. In this post-quarantine days, we are back to our normal daily life, but maybe still having our quarantine eating habit. Due to this, we might involve in the increases in food waste that happen now.

There are about 1.3 billion tonnes of food being waste globally each year. Existing food waste problems can occur because of buying food excessively which is not in the portion you need only. This problem can lead to a high impact on the environment. So, are there any steps that can be taken to prevent this matter?

A restaurant in Changsha, China put up a weighing scale at the entrance of the restaurant for the customers to weigh themselves. It also suggests the customers on how much food they should order depending on their weight by putting up the suggestion next to the scales.

The restaurant is taking this action as China’s President, Xi Jinping spoke about the country’s food waste problem. A campaign was launched in China after the country faced a shocking problem with food waste. The pandemic that happened this year also raises an alarming impact on food security. Floods that happened in China too, have wept up all the crops, which causes food prices to increase. The country is taking an early step in handling the crisis.

The Chuiyan Fried Beef restaurant Tan Yan, president of the restaurant said that there are over 1,000 groups of customers who had gone along with the idea. The customers voluntarily weigh themselves and the results will be sent to their phones in order to keep their privacy.

The restaurant made an apology statement for causing some customers to be upset after putting the weigh by the doors. Tan said the restaurant will continue with the campaign but will try to improve.
