5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Throw Away Eggshells

Eggs have always been our favorite choice in our meal, be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For some Malaysian, a simple meal of plain rice, fried egg, and kicap (soy sauce) is enough to give happiness to the tummy and heart.

There are many benefits that we can get from eating egg as it contains several vitamins and minerals that are suitable for a healthy diet. But how about the eggshells? Actually, we can make use of the eggshells in various ways. Here are five things that you can do with the eggshells.

1. To fertilize the garden

Eggshells can provide calcium carbonate to the soil and also reduce the soil acidity. Started to save some eggshells for your garden. Rinse, dry, and store the eggshells in a container. When you are going to use it, crush some of the eggshells and mix them with the soil. Interestingly, they can also act as a natural repellent to avoid slugs and snails from coming to your garden.

2. Act as a non-toxic abrasive cleaner

Calcium carbonate often found in household cleaning products and it acts as an abrasive cleaner. Now, you can avoid chemical products by using this powdered eggshell mixture for cleaning. Dry the eggshells under the sun or on low heat in the oven for a few minutes. Crush or blend the shells until you can get a fine paste. Mix 1 cup of the powdered shell and 3 cups of baking soda. Add vinegar or water to the mixture when you are about to start the cleaning.

3. To clean a reusable coffee flask

It must be frustrating to see brown stains on the inside of your coffee flask. The next time when you want to clean your flask, add crushed eggshells and hot water into the flask. Close the flask and shake well. Try using this tip when you want to clean your flask and see the difference.

4. To make DIY sidewalk chalk
