A Sign Showing The Numbers Of US COVID-19 Deaths Was Vandalized

A sign showing the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 in the United States is now the target of vandalism. The incident is said to have taken place in the city of Chicago.

Even worse, the sign has been the victim of vandalism five times since it was placed in Northbrook, Illinois last Friday.

“We’ve had vandalism before when we’ve put up displays, but I was shocked because we’re all in this virus situation together,” said organizer Lee Goodman.

“Frankly when we put it up, I didn’t think anyone would pay any attention at all,” he added.

Goodman says that he made the sign to remind people to be vigilant against the virus and to get people to speak out and make our leaders responsible for how they deal with the epidemic.

He was a part of Peaceful Communities, a social action organization made up of volunteers, who launched the sign on Friday. He said the group obtained a 30-day permit from the village to install signboards in the designated public forum space.

According to Northbrook village spokeswoman Cheryl Fayne-dePersio, a total of four police reports have been filed for each vandalism case. Goodman said he made a fifth police report on the latest incident.

“The defacement of the sign is being investigated,” said Fayne-dePersio. “So far, no one has been charged,” she added.
