A vehicle can be considered as one of the essential needs in someone’s life. Having a car surely will make your life easier to go anywhere you want.
However, buying a car needs you to have a stable income. That is why some people prefer to rent a car for them to use in their daily life. But what if the charge of renting a car costs more than a new car?
A man in Kyoto was arrested after he wasn’t able to return a rental car to the rental company. He failed to return the car after a year past the return deadline. Masafumi Hagiwara, a 44-year-old man was estimated to be charged in a range of 7.66 million yen (about RM300,000) for returning the car late by the time he was caught by the police. That would be more than the cost of a brand new car.
Hagiwara rented the car from a rental company in Fushimi Ward on 25 June last year. On 2 July, he called the rental company to request for an extension as he was far from the city at that moment.
He kept on using the car for a year and failed to return the car. He later was caught by the Kyoto Prefectural Police on 4 August this year in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City.
People online reacted to his story saying that might had caused the company to lost profits. Some other commenters were curious about how he wasn’t get tracked for keeping the car for too long.
