Parkia speciosa seeds or common known with petai is a common ingredient in Malay cuisine with traditional interest because of its medicinal importance and content of health-promoting phytochemicals.
According to the journal Assessment and comparison of phytochemical constituents and biological activities of bitter bean (Parkia speciosa Hassk.) collected from different locations in Malaysia, in traditional medicine, the seeds of P. speciosa are pounded and boiled to be used for alleviating stomach pain and have been considered beneficial in treating liver disease, diabetes, and worm infestations.
Besides that, the Ministry of Health Malaysia also shares the benefits of petai and how it can help to control the water balance in the body.
1. High in vitamin C
Petai contains vitamin C which boosts the body’s immune system and antioxidants. The level of vitamin contained in it is able to reduce stress and also heal wounds easily.
2. Contain Calium
Your body needs calcium to build and maintain strong bones. Some studies suggest that calcium, along with vitamin D, may have benefits beyond bone health: perhaps protecting against cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
