Many pharmaceutical companies all over the world are trying to come out with a vaccine to treat COVID-19. A lot of works need to be done in order to come out with the vaccine. A long procedure needs to be taken before the vaccine can be manufactured and distributed for use.
The fastest in history to develop a vaccine was four years. But the scientists are racing to become the fastest to develop COVID-19 vaccine. It is important for them to develop the vaccine as soon as they can to curb the disease that has been spread throughout the world.
Apart from developing the vaccine, another thing that needs attention is how to deliver the vaccine to all parts of the world. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), 8,000 cargo aircraft are needed to deliver the vaccine to 7.8 billion people.
Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s director general and CEO said that to conduct the mission, it needs detailed planning in terms of the facilities, security arrangements, and border processes. This is to ensure the vaccine can be delivered quickly and efficiently.
COVID-19 vaccine is being developed simultaneously around the world. Once the vaccine is approved for use, it can be manufactured and delivered for global use. This is where the air cargo industry plays the most important role.
Another concern to IATA is to provide facilities and equipment that are temperature-controlled to transport the vaccine. The vaccine will be a highly valuable commodity, thus security on the vaccine also takes a bigger portion for IATA to focus on.
