Nowadays, people love to just lay back in their home with their friends and family to spend some quality time together. In addition with the Covid-19 Pandemic situation, people stay longer at home rather than to be outside. When they are at home, binge watching Netflix is one of the choices for them to do together.

Netflix is such a great option to be chosen if watching a lot of movies from different genres continuously is the crowd’s preference. Between all the shows that are available on Netflix, there are some of them that bring so much hate and also bad reviews from the viewers. These are the top 5 most controversial shows on Netflix.

1) Insatiable

This show is particularly about a 17-year-old girl who manages to lose a lot of weight the immediately transforms into a bombshell in everyone’s eye. She then gets recruited to become a beauty pageant queen. Before the transformation, she constantly get bullied because of her plus size figure and she finally come back to seek revenge to everyone that ever bullied her after she successfully lose her weight.

The bad comments started rolling in since the trailer got released. A lot of Twitter users were not satisfied with the themes that the director wanted to imply in the series. Many people could see that this series will lead to the believe that they have to starve themselves to lose weight and gain social acceptability or you will be bullied forever.

2) 13 Reasons Why

This show is about the life of high school student that is Clay Jensen and the tragic aftermath of one particular high school student that is Hannah Baker’s suicide. Before her death, she leaves behind a box filled with cassette tapes that she used to record the details on why she chose to end her life in a such traumatic way.

A lot of viewers received that the message of the show as suicide being the perfect method to get revenge on other people that have messed up your life. Other than that, this show also gives the message that by committing suicide, every problems in life would solve. This is such a negative impact to be given to the society.

3) The Ranch

This show is generally about the life of the Bennetts, a dysfunctional family who lives together that consists of two brothers, their rancher father, and his estranged wife, a local bar owner there.

This time around, the controversy is not about the show but it is because of the actor that involved in  the show and that is Danny Masterson, who plays the lead character Rooster Bennett. This particular actor has been accused with sexual assault by a lot of women. Even though the allegation got denied by Danny Masterson, Netflix decided to cut ties with him so that they wont raise any more controversy with the actor.

4) House Of Cards

House Of Cards is all about the story of Frank Underwood played by Kevin Spacey who is the Democrat from South Carolina’s 5th congressional district and also the House Majority Whip. He decides to exact his revenge on those who betrayed him after getting passed over for appointment to Secretary of State.

This show also is listed as one of the controversial show just because of the actor that involved in the show. One of the actor that is Kevin Spacey has been accused with a lot of sexual assault and also harassment crimes. Netflix decided to fire Kevin Spacey and cut him off from the series.

5) Dear White People

This show is solemnly about several black college students that studied in an Ivy League institution. This show wanted to touch on the sensitive issues surrounding modern American race relations.

Most of the viewers have already got mad with the title alone. This is because, they already have the mindset that the director wanted to make a racist attack against white people. Racial issue is such a big and serious issue to be talked about nowadays and people should think twice just to talk about it.
