(Video) Fluent In Malay, Ambassador of France Bid Farewell With ‘Pantun 2 Kerat’

French Ambassador to Malaysia, Frédéric Laplanche recently caught the attention of many Malaysian when presenting ‘pantun‘ in the Malay language fluently. It was delivered to say goodbye and thank the people of this country after 3 years serving.

The video was uploaded on Twitter by France In Malaysia. In the 58-second video, Laplanche stated the ‘pantun’ that he presented was taught by his Malay language teacher.

“My teacher of Bahasa Malaysia taught me this pantun,” he said.

Below are the full pantun that he said and its translation on the video:

“Hari ini bertanam jagung, hari esok bertanam serai. Hari ini kita berkampung, hari esok kita bercerai.”

“Today the maize we grow, tomorrow it will be lemongrass. Today we are together met, tomorrow on the ways we pass.”

“Kalau ada sumur di ladang, boleh kita menumpang mandi. Kalau ada umur yang panjang, tahun depan berjumpa lagi.”

“If there is a well in the field, We can use it for a bath. If we are given a long life, in the future we shall meet again.”

Laplanche also said that he will keep this country in his heart.

“The relations between France and Malaysia will continue to grow and bloom and that makes me happy,” he continued.

“Thank you all for your support, terima kasih semua,” he added.
